My first trial painting up a few Forward March French units. These are from their Heroics line, which are 2.5mm tall. The individual "figures" are simply vertical posts, so there's really only a single dimension to work in.
Method was to spray prime in white; paint in the green base; paint in the blue coats, paint (acrylic marker, actually) the tops of the posts black, for shakos. I used a tiny rubber band at the very foot of the main body of figures as a mask, to preserve an even strip of white for trousers. They look terrible up close, but of course that's not the point. Table-distance, they look . . . okay. Would welcome any tips or tricks though for getting a better result.

I use Vallejo paints, thinned 1 part water to 2 parts paint, and a small brush. When the paint is thin enough to flow off the brush you can get a fairly good line freehand. Search this forum for username bayerniki - he gave a tutorial on painting that was my starting point. Lighted magnifying glass on an adjustable arm is a must for me. I also found some micro- brushes with a tiny fuzzy head on a plastic handle. Trimming the fuzz off one side with an Xacto knife allows me to paint the base after I've painted the figures.

Perfect, thanks, just the sort of advice I was looking for.
