So, after building up a fair amount of 6mm stuff, it slowly dawned on me that even at that scale, moving this stuff around with decent sized armies just wasn't going to work. I travel a fair bit for work, so I really wanted a box that would have multiple armies, being able to play multiple scenarios and using a system that was pretty easy to play. I've chosen V&B as the system I will use as I enjoy it, it's easy to play and you can play a big game in not a huge amount of time. Perfect for a travelling game. I'm also tempted to get Snappy Nappy as well but that's for some time in the future.
The only changes I made was to take the V&B which is measured in inches and use cm instead. I also haven't bothered (as yet) to use linear bases for earlier ancien regime infantry (I might do in time), but I'll just use the roster to list which are linear and which are mass. Other than that, it's all the same.
So, I ordered 3 armies from Irregular Miniatures (Austrian, British and French), only to discover FMS about a day after, and a few buildings to go with them. Since then I've printed a few more units to go with my Austrians and I'll be printing Spanish and Portugese armies too.
The idea is to be able to run 'out of the box' scenarios where ever I happen to be with the minimum of fuss. So far, using the V&B book, I've got all the forces needed for Marengo scenario in that book, so that's what I am concentrating on at the moment. You'll see from the pictures below that there's a large colour band on the back of each stand. This will have a number painted on it and that will reference the unit on the roster, so each base will play as different units depending on the scenario.
Over the coming weeks I'll be updating this as I go until the Battle Box is ready for a test run and then be taken with me when I travel for work.
