Hi All,
My first post here, and I'm very interested in the up-coming pre-printed units that'll be offered for sale by FMS in the near future.
I'm wondering whether a library subscription will be required for purchasing these P-P units, or will sales use a per-item "shopping cart" process.
On the ancients, and/or Pike and Shot era units being planned, would a prospective buyer expect to be able to buy most of the primary miniature units for such era's exclusively through FMS, or will we need to supplement such collections with other manufacturer's models?
(I guess I'm asking for any forecasting that's available on what units are being planned for these future pre-printed lines?)
Thanks!
Dave

Hi Dave,
I am planning on making an announcement in the near future on this. In short, no license is required to buy the models. They will be sold through a web store (currently under construction) just like traditional model soldier ranges. They will be 3D printed in FDM. We will do rigorous quality control on the prints. I'm trying to think of a good perk to give the Members though; I have a few thoughts already...
Not every model in the Library will be available in the web store. I'm selectively rolling out the ranges based on a poll I ran over at the 2mm FB group a few weeks ago. We will be introducing ranges like a regular company, by starting with just a few models and expanding thereafter. We will be starting with Napoleonic French and British in the newly christened "Epic 2mm" range, which is really the old "deployed" range in the Library with some technological advances (let's call them that). Specifically, I worked out a few "add-on" bits that can be used to add swords and lances to the cavalry. This significantly improved the models. I also fiddled with the deployed cavalry model a bit to make it the correct size relative to the infantry.
In ancients and pike and shot we will aim for completeness, certainly for the basics. So, for the Romans, for instance, we would aim for basic regular strength and double strength centuries as the building blocks of the army. We'll have a heavy and a light cavalry model (which may end up being a sort of generic heavy cav model with a lance/sword add-on option). We'll have skirmishers. The Roman infantry themselves are almost ready, and I'm happy enough with them that I may make the model a kind of generic ancient heavy infantry figure (I don't see why the same model couldn't be an Immortal if painted differently). I'll probably offer ancient infantry in closed and open formations - both models have already been designed. We'll have elephants and scythed chariots and camels, and various war machines. Of course, because of the nature of 2mm and the style of FMS figures, there won't really be special figures for individual men, especially in the Heroic 2mm range. What I want to do is show the units as they actually appeared, as if seen from our height as gamers.
The basic Macedonian phalanx model will also be the model used for the pike and shot period. I'll make them available in all kinds of formations to show the various changes in tactics and formations during the latter era. Shot will be available in different sizes as well, and will be two-part models with muskets that can be carried or pointing at the enemy, or placed at port arms (I tried this with the formed Napoleonic infantry but it didn't work as well).
Otherwise, all the buildings will be available. After we release some Heroic 2mm figures we'll then begin releasing some of the other models in the Library.
I hope that all is helpful.

Zach, that's immensely helpful - did you leave anything out for the official announcement?! (sounds like The Full Monty Caesar in unit availability for these periods) Thanks for the info here! Dave
