Hi everyone,
I've been getting contacted by someone about using the FMS figures for Table Top Simulator. The way this works is that someone (not me) would take the files, put them in Blender, and create 3D models to use on Stream.
My first response was pretty brusque: "No."
Now I'm thinking it over.
And I'm not sure what to think. So I'm bringing it to the group. What do you think? Would this be a good idea? Would this basically be supporting piracy?
Part of my issue is I see Table Top Simulator and other Steam-based board games as quasi- to outright-piracy, so I'm dubious about it. I know you're supposed to own the games, but who does?
On the other hand, the war games hobby is pretty honorable for the most part, so maybe most people actually do own their games. Plus piracy is essentially impossible to stamp out, and its best to just mitigate it where possible. I'd imagine there aren't millions of 14 year old nihilists playing pirated games of Blucher and Empire 3.
Do any of you use Table Top Simulator? Would you have any interest in using the figs on TTS?

Personally I think there are enough options on TTS so I wouldn’t bother putting your designs up there

I think you should allow making icons for use with Tabletop Simulator (TTS).
Some relativism and perspective is in order here.
You aren't condoning piracy or theft of any sets of game rules. Rather, you are essentially providing a set of tools for use.
And what is the proportionality of potential harm? Its not like you are offering up firearms which could maim or kill someone. Its 2mm icons.
And how many people would now buy TTS so they could pirate rules and play games simply because 2mm icons became available? Probably very, very, very few.
By proceeding, you'd increase the amount of fun and enjoyment available to historical gamers.
You'd also provide 2mm wargaming in general (and FMS in particular) with some well-earned publicity and wider exposure to hobbyists.
My wargaming friend just bought TTS and I plan to do the same. We'll likely use it to play Blucher (which we both own) over the net.
Playing it with 2mms would be nice.

zeitsev- Good arguments for.
Rob- I wouldn't be doing any work for this, someone else volunteered themselves. Not anyone on here I don't think. Also, I don't know why someone would want to use FMS figures on TTS - it definitely doesn't showcase their best features.
Then again, maybe it would be good advertising?
I'll think about it a bit more...
